Kalaignar asks DMK rank and file should take legal steps to remove irregularities in the list

Alleging that the ADMK functionaries were interfering in the preparation of voters list bringing democracy to ridicule, DMK President Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi urged the Election Commission of India to properly enquire and take action soon to rectify the fraud committed by the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Jan 16, Kalaignar said that he had been continuously alleging the ruling party people resorting to various irregularities in the preparation of voters list. During every election the ADMK people were interfering in voters list and committing fraud by bringing democracy itself to ridicule. As evidence ‘Murasoli’ reporter Thiruvenkadam has given details. Particularly, in October last the Salem district DMK presented a complaint to the TN CEO containing a list of details about one name found in two three places in the same polling booth and those who had shifted the residences.
So far the practice adopted by the EC was rectifying the voters list up to January every year. That is verification of inclusions, deletions, deaths and shifting of residences was done thrice a year, supplementary voters list released and finally new voters were included through special camps from October to November 15 and before December all deletions carried out and full voters list was released in January first week. But in Salem district instead of this procedure final list of voters was released with 72,103 new voters included as they wished in 25 days from 15.10.2014 to 10.11.2014.
In the complaint presented by the DMK there would be a minimum of 100 votes of those of repetition of names, deceased and residence shifted in every polling booth. There are 250 polling booths in each constituency and at this rate there would be about 25,000 fake voters in each constituency and in 11 Assembly constituencies in Salem district there would be thee lakh fake voters. Hence political parties already demanded that door wise verification should be carried out through booth level officers.
As the district election officer, deputy election officer and regional election officers did not carry out field work the number of fake voters was adding up every year. That too according to figures this situation arose only after the ADMK came to power.
In the final voters list released on Jan 5, in Salem North Assembly constituency, the name of one Bhagam and Sivasankar appeared in Sl. No. 697 part 179 and Sl.NO.1040 in part 177 respectively though both of them were dead. Similarly the names of Siraj (Sl. No. 1041) and Rahmath Beevi (Sl. No.1324 part 180) also appeared with photographs. Thus it has been exposed with evidence that three lakh fake voters found place throughout Salem district.
Similarly complaint has been given about names of voters of families who voted in the last Lok Sabha election have been deleted in the list for Pollachi. A complaint about 10,000 fake voters in Srirangam constituency where by-election is to be held next month was given in the meeting conducted by the District Collector. Though only a few places have been pointed out there were complaints all over the State, Kalaignar said.
To say further, the number of voters in 2009 was 4,16,20,460 which has increased in 2014 to 5,37,52,682 that is by 29.1 percent. Compared with other States it was 15.8 % in UP, 13.9% in Bihar, 7.8% in Andhra, 6.9% in Karnataka and an astounding increase by 29.1% clearly showed fake voters increase in TN.
“As we have the big responsibility of facing these actions legally, the new functionaries and cadre of the party should directly verify the final voters list 100% and take legal steps to remove irregularities and fraud. All, irrespective of chances for contesting in Assembly elections should participate in this exercise. It is not enough if attention is only on victory but care should be taken on voters list also. Steps taken in every district should be informed to the headquarters. I urge the Election Commission of India and State Chief Election Officer to properly enquire and take suitable action sooner”, Kalaignar said.25 January 2015
