Constant effective follow-up

• Tamil Nadu cited as the role model for a number of pioneering achievements among Indian States
• Tamil Nadu untouched by hunger and disease
• Tamil Nadu a forerunner in industrialization
• India on Tamil Nadu way
• Japanese Trade body sees Chennai as gateway of South East Asia
• Tamil Nadu stands first in providing timely quality health care to the poor
• Tamil Nadu’s role admirable in developing amity between neighbouring states

These and similar commending headlines appeared in the English media epitomizing the wonderful performance of Tamil Nadu in different fields of its activities. The leading American journal ‘Wall Street Journal’ paid rich encomia in its write up titling it ‘A New Detroit rises in the south.’ The Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, at the inauguration of the new Assembly Secretariat complex, evaluating the pioneering achievements of Tamil Nadu government, heralded that ‘Kalaignar has made Tamil Nadu a model State’. He went a step further and said that ‘the government of the UPA alliance has been greatly benefited from the wisdom and leadership of Kalaignar and I have turned to him often for his advice.’ Tmt. Sonia Gandhi, UPA Chairperson proclaimed that ‘Kalaignar was a pillar of strength to the Prime Minister, to me and to the coalition government.

It is the honesty of purpose of sincerity in the efforts of the Chief Minister Kalaignar that paid rich dividends to the state. His ministers and those in the pivotal positions are all committed to the aims and ideals of the government and the Chief Minister.

Jayalalitha ridiculed that writing letters to the government is of no use. The Chief Minister should take strong action to achieve things she opined. But she is fully aware that all the achievements of State right from 1996 were only through writing letters to the Union government. It is an established fact that Kalaignar does take action by writing first follows it simultaneously through our Parliament members and others in New Delhi. Tamil Nadu government gets what it wants from the Centre through proper relations, asserting rights in the conventional channels and in some cases even through court cases.

Even in the present issue of All India Common Entrance Test (CET), Kalaignar, without losing time, conveyed the feelings of the government making it clear that this CET will result in a set back and cause gross injustice to the rural students by means of letters to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Tmt. Sonia Gandhi resulting in the holding up of the introduction of the test. In the mean time, even a case was also filed. It is this type of constant effective follow up of his efforts that yields fruitful results. This applies to all the activities of the state, be it Mullaiperiyar dam issue, Cauvery river water or the levying tax on commodities and services. Kalaignar never compromised TN rights with neighbouring states as well as in Central-State Relations. Being a strong proponent of vibrant federalism he is doubly cautious when it comes to Central-State relations or inter-State problems.

It is Kalaignar’s amiable personality and equipoised approach, constant and effective follow up that always lead the State to its zenith.
