Revolution: the term most abused in TN !

MDMK leader Vaiko, in an interview to ‘Anandavikadan’ weekly has claimed that Jayalalitha is striving for Eelam Tamils and she is the ‘Star of Hope’ for Eelam Tamils. First of all, Jayalalitha does not accept the very word “Tamil Eelam’ and maintains that there is only ‘Sri Lanka’.
When Vaiko was arrested under POTA at the Chennai airport in July 2002 on his return from USA, he immediately burst out, “This is a fascist regime. Jayalalitha has lost balance and trying to divert attention of people by resorting to gimmicks like arresting me”. People remember very well the Tamil epithets he used to vent his anger against Jayalalitha, “r©lhë, rÂfhç” etc.,
And what did Jayalalitha say about Vaiko’s MDMK? The following is an excerpt of Jayalalitha’s interview, from ADMK’s official organ ‘Namathu MGR’ dated 13.7.2002:
“Question: Is there any plan with Tamil Nadu government to proscribe MDMK?
Chief Minister Jayalalitha: Your question itself is wrong. If there is a plan with the Tamil Nadu government, we have not planned to proscribe anybody. There is no need to plan. We consider that the MDMK is a movement that should be banned.
In the recently held executive committee meeting of the MDMK, they have adopted an important resolution which implies that the very objective of the functioning of the MDMK, its participation in the Union Cabinet is only for adding more strength to them for waging struggles for Eelam Tamils.
Moreover they continue to say repeatedly that they would support the LTTE. Hence they do not have any programme to do anything for India. Neither do they have any programme for doing something for Tamil Nadu.
They are not raising voice for Tamils living in Tamil Nadu. Although they are having movement in India, they do not want to do anything for India or Tamil Nadu. They assert that they would  function only for Eelam Tamils.
Moreover they say they would continue to support the LTTE come what may. The LTTE is already banned in India under ‘Unlawful Preventive Activities’. This has been banned under POTA also.
So if a movement continues to say that they would extend support to a terrorist organization, that is definitely a dangerous matter, not good for the country. This government considers that it has to be banned. We will get into actions for that.
Question: When Sri Lankan Prime Minister met you did he seek your cooperation in peace talks?
Chief Minister Jayalalitha: He did not seek my cooperation for the ongoing peace talks in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister as a State guest came here and wanted to meet me. He met me. He wanted to explain me the steps taken in Sri Lanka. As Prime Minister Ranil Vikramsinge is a good friend of me, I advised him that everyone knows about the betrayal of the LTTE and is not a trust worthy movement and hence he should be cautious.”
(Dr.Namathu MGR, 13.7.2002, page 8)
How did the leader of the movement supporting a “dangerous terrorist movement” and whose party has “no programme for Tamil Nadu and India” “not functioning for Tamils in Tamil Nadu” but for those elsewhere, become an ally of Jayalalitha, just three years later in 2006 elections? How did she alight from vehicle on her way to her mansion recently and greeted this “dangerous’ person with terrorist link? What is the follow up action that she had been telling then to get the MDMK banned?
And for Vaiko, how did this lady whom he referred to in singular Tamil epithets and as ‘fascist’ and arrested him and incarcerated for 18 months under POTA for speaking in support of Eelam Tamils, become his ‘dear sister’ and the “Star of Hope” for Eelam Tamils?
Is this the “revolutionary change” brought in by the “Puratchithalaivi” and “Puratchippuyal”. There was a teacher by name Na.Periyasamy in Tiruchi. He was a very good orator in Tamil and used to even converse in chaste Tamil with ease sans any artificiality. But in 1970s, he used to request the audience in meetings to bear with him for using only one word in English  because the Tamil term for it had been very much vulgarized and abused for cheap sycophancy and publicity: the word is ‘revolution’.         r
