Anarchist turns Psychopath

The unruly and anarchic conduct of the ADMK members in the State Assembly prior to the Governor’s Address on Jan.7, which came into full view in telecast by TV channels, was the outcome of the lumpen culture of that party promoted by their leader and chief-anarchist Jayalalitha, ever since she entered into public life. By birth trait she seemed to be obstreperous that she was always cast in such characters in films during her tinsel career, stories of which invariably were ‘Taming of the Shrew’ type.
Than democratic politics, Jayalalitha relies on violence, rowdyism and riots for promoting her political fortunes, she will stoop to any level to get her interests served. Right from the day she joined ADMK and stepped into fulltime politics, on every occasion she had been concentrating on unleashing violence against opponents, and hurling baseless charges of murder against political rivals.
Jayalalitha, has the unique distinction of letting loose violence, clashes, rioting and pandemonium in the Assembly in January 1988 and dethrone the then 24-day government of V.N.Janaki, widow of MGR and her bête noire in personal life. Members came to blows and goondas entered the House. Mikes were wrenched and pedestal fans and chairs were thrown about. City Police Commissioner W I Dewaram, a confident of Jayalalitha, led a police contingent into the House. The police went about beating people inside and outside the Assembly precincts. Though Janaki Ramachandran won vote of confidence by voice vote, at the behest of Jayalalitha the Central government dismissed her government and imposed President’s rule.
After dislodging Janaki’s government Jayalalitha could not succeed in her scheme of capturing power in the State as the DMK won handsomely in the 1989 election and formed the government, much to her chagrin. She could not stomach Kalaignar’s return to power and waited for an opportunity for the repeat of 1988 January violence in the Assembly. On March 25, 1989 when Chief Minister Kalaignar, who was also holding Finance portfolio, was about to present the Budget, Jayalalitha (seated in front of him across the table) vehemently rose up yelling abusive words in English and shouting, “He is a criminal. Don’t read the budget” and “Punch him” and punched him in his nose with her ‘heavy’ fist that his spectacle broke and fell down.
He was saved of injury because of the distance of the table across them. The other members of the ADMK jumped over the tables and attacked Ministers in the Treasury benches. The then Local Administration Minister Veerapandi Arumugam bled profusely from the forehead. The actress Jayalalitha pretended before press reporters as if a Minister pulled her saree.
During her regime from 1991-96, she unleashed violence against opponents of her regime; she was accused of instigating attacks on Advocate Vijayan (his leg was severed), Advocate Shanmugasundaram (the fingers of his hand severed), IAS officer Chandralekha (acid thrown on her face), the then Chief Election Commissioner T.N Seshan (the hotel in which he was staying attacked by vandals), the then Union Minister P.Chidambaram (at Trichy), Governor Channa Reddy (on his way to Pondicherry), Mani Shankar Iyer (then a MP in a government function attended by her), Subramanian Swamy (in Madras High Court complex) etc., The then Union Minister Arunachalam was forced to get down from an aircraft in which she embarked, as he was a Dalit.
Jayalalitha never hesitates to accuse her political opponents of attempting to murder her and made such outrageous charges on Kalaignar, G.K.Moopanar, R.M.Veerappan et al., She had used abusive epithets against all leaders like Rajiv Gandhi, P.V.Narasimha Rao, Channa Reddy, L.K.Advani, Navalar V.R. Nedunchezian, S.R.Balasubramanian and others.
So it is no wonder that she had directed her legislators to create such violent  and riotous scene in the Assembly. But because of their urge to ally with such an anarchist, the comrades of CPM and CPI had also associated themselves in such uncultured conduct. They seem to have forgotten that they are ruling in three states, where the prices of commodities and state of affairs are no better than Tamil Nadu.
Reacting to the Governor’s Address, while the CPM State Secretary G.Ramakrishnan has said that it had been prepared with an eye on elections implying that it contained announcements which would gladden the people, Jayalalitha has cursed it in mean language as one ‘leading in destructive path’ and ‘instead of having a far-sighted vision (bjhiyneh¡F¥ gh®it) it contains a murderous-sighted vision (bfhiyneh¡F¥ gh®it). As seen above Jayalalitha suffers from a phobia of murder or paranoia, that prompts her to issue such obnoxious and outrageous statements.
With what scant respect the solemn occasion of the Governor’s Address to the Assembly was held during Jayalalitha’s regime in 1992 was unheard of in the legislative history of any state in the country. The Ministers and officials accorded more interest in welcoming her than the ceremonial reception to the Governor Bhisma Narain Singh. Huge welcome arches were erected in front of Fort St. George and festoons, welcome banners, decoratives and flower-decked path for her walking into the precincts of the Assembly were arranged. The Speaker himself came out, received her and seated her in the Speaker’s chair much against the rules of the House. Moreover, in an outrageous manner her associate Sasikala, who was not even a legislator, was seated in the Deputy Speaker’s chair.
The Governor’s Address for 23 pages did not contain any people welfare scheme, but mentioned her name in 20 places as ‘Puratchi Thalaivi’ Dr. J Jayalalitha and sentences eulogizing her. The opposition members were not permitted to speak on the Address but she angrily blamed the opposition parties of denigrating her under guise of criticizing the Governor’s Address. She said, “There are some big people who lost the chance to come to this House and speak. They remain outside and observe some remarks on certain views expressed in this Address showing off their intellect.”
“I understand that they say this Address contains nothing thinking that they are the wholesale lessees of intelligence.  If they are allowed for some more days like this they will even say that they are empty pages without even any letters and words. By their habit of finding fault with us they have exposed to the world how darkened and constrained are their hearts. The reason for their anxiety is nothing but their ire for this woman ruling. I once again remind what I had often said that I have not come to this place walking on a flower-decked path without undergoing any difficulty or trouble.”
But now the same lady had said that this Governor’s Address took the state on destructive path and there are no schemes to take Tamil Nadu and people of the state on development path.
But on the very same day (8.1.2011) the anti-DMK and pro-Jayalalitha Tamil newspaper ‘Dinamani’ had listed the following as significant features of Governor’s Address: They are 14 people’s welfare schemes like
v     New government medical college in Cuddalore, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram
v     Free concrete housing scheme for urban poor also
v     Cancellation of Government discretionary quota for allotment of TNHB houses and plots
v     Constitution of a committee under the chairmanship of a retired High Court Judge to study reclaiming of panchami lands
v     Permanent flood prevention project for Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts
v     Emergency treatment scheme for infants
v     Horticulture university at Krishnagiri
v     Constitution of residential flats and plots for MIGs on over 1100 acres in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi, Erode and Hosur.
v     Ground water recharge scheme in Salem, Namakkal and Tiruchi districts
v     Decision to use coconut oil instead of palm oil in nutritious meal scheme.
v     Rs.450-cr project for beautification of tourist centres and develop infrastructure.
v     New Arts and Science colleges at Kallakurichi, Neyveli, Nagalapuram, Harur and Tiruchuzhi
v     Agriculture college at Kilaveloor in Nagapattinam dist.
v     Study to establish Metro Rail links between Moolakadai-Tirumangalam, Luz-Poonamalee through Iyyappanthangal in Chennai
If in the eyes of Jayalalitha all these announcements lead Tamil Nadu in a destructive path and the Governor’s Address has murderous sighted vision instead of far-sighted one, it means the ‘seasoned’ anarchist has turned into a psychopath requiring immediate admission and treatment for perennial paranoia in a Mental Health hospital.
