Stalin alleges scandal even in garbage clearance by Chennai Corporation

DMK Treasurer and former Mayor of Chennai Corporation Thalapathi M.K.Stalin alleged that a scandal had taken place even in garbage clearance by the present administration of the corporation in Chennai.
Addressing a massive public meeting at Peravalklur in Chennai on April 10 to condemn the administrative deterioration of Chennai Corporation, Thiru Stalin said the Party would conduct a massive demonstration in front of the Chennai Collectorate on April16 condemning the administrative failures of the Chennai Corporation. If they did not correct themselves the Party would conduct streetwise stirs to enable people to understand the deterioration of the administration of Chennai Corporation.
Punning on the Tamil words ‘Manidhaneyar’ (humanitarian) and ‘Manidhanoyar’ (one who causes disease to people), Thiru Stalin said the present Mayor S.Duraisamy was said to be a humanist but now he was only the person causing diseases to people. The most important problems of the city were mosquito menace, dilapidated roads and fused street lamps leading to increased incidence of chain snatchings and robberies.
He alleged that scandal was taking place even in garbage clearance. The set up 821 sheds in blue colour all over the city for hiding heaps of garbage. But they were not cleared regularly facilitating mosquitoes to breed. Even among those sheds 70 percent were missing and people did not know who took them away. Alleging scandal in this, Thiru Stalin challenged the Corporation administration to file a case against him. Every street corner had turned out to be mountains of garbage heaps, causing health hazards to people.
Stating that the DMK was not against eateries serving people food at cheaper rates, he however faulted the corporation administration for turning corporations community centres, public toilets and dispensaries and hospitals into food courts. Corporation workers were involved in these works. Then how could civic works be carried out by the corporation? The supervisors and officials who had been assigned spot inspection works on complaints were said to be receiving only complaint calls on eateries and could not attend supervision of civic works.
He said corruption was rampant in the corporation and commission of 10 percent had to be given for any tenders for corporation works. As councillors could not raise any issue in the corporation council just like the State Assembly, we had to conduct agitation condemning the scandals and irregularities of the corporation, he said.
DMK cadres would distribute leaflets from house to house explaining the problems for which the demonstration was to be held. If the corporation administration did not mend its way of functioning, the Party would launch jail-filling agitation, he warned.
The Party Treasurer was presented Rs. One crore as the first instalment of Election Fund on behalf of North Chennai district DMK. North Chennai district in-charge R.D.Sekar presided over the meeting in which Deputy General Secretary Sarguna Pandian and others also spoke.
