Believing that people of Tamil Nadu would have forgotten the truth of MGR, during his life time, denouncing and castigating wily Jayalalitha and her cunning designs, now she is pretending of hailing him, observed DMK President Kalaignar.
Referring to her statement on the occasion of MGR birth anniversary on Jan 17 that ‘every one of us hold Puratchithalaivar MGR more dearer than our lives’, Kalaignar said she has issued greetings on the occasion of MGR birth anniversary and Pongal in view of the ensuing Srirangam by-election. But why she did not issue greetings for New Year and Christmas, he asked.
“Have people of TN forgotten the letter she sent to the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi through Salam Kannan when MGR was alive? ‘Makkal Kural’ daily had then published the photo copy of the handwritten letter of Jayalalitha.
About MGR she wrote, “The root cause of everything that is happening here is that the C.M. is terribly jealous of my popularity. He cannot stomach the fact that I have become so popular. So he is doing everything possible to eliminate me from the political scene and from public life.”
In the same letter she also wrote, ”MGR himself, who does not want to give me due importance, does not want to induct me into the Cabinet. No one here can really dare to oppose him for without him they are Zeros.” Is it not natural for people of TN to doubt whether her demand for naming Chennai airport after MGR was due to affection or craving for post?
Further about Jayalalitha MGR told ‘Makkal Kual’ daily on 1.1.1989, “Ammu’s atrocity is intolerable. Thinking of something I introduced Ammu in politics. Attempt to make Pillayar ended in monkey (it has backfired). Having learnt intrigue, vendetta, treachery and conspiracy this Ammu is trying to topple me. I have unnecessarily invited trouble for myself now. This Ammu is dangerous and she will use anybody for her, will not hesitate to do anything. Very bad woman” and this was published by the daily’s editor T.R.Ramasamy even then.
Believing that people of Tamil Nadu would have forgotten all these truths now she is pretending of hailing MGR, Kalaignar observed.
Govt.’s failure: Kalaignar faulted the ADMK government for its failure to take steps in advance to get proper permission from the Supreme Court in the issue of Jallikattu also. Though they issued statements stating lame excuses to hoodwink people like writing to the Prime Minister, having deputed officers to Delhi and filing review petition in the apex court, the truth was that they did not take sincere steps to fulfill the desire of people of Tamil Nadu. “Hailing from the famous place for jallikattu, Panneerselvam has failed to fulfill the just expectation of those people” he said.
Ironical: It was strange and ironical that the State had decided to hold a global investors summit in May when it had witnessed closure of maximum number of industries and job loss, he stated. According to reports Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra were in the forefront in the list of most loss of jobs in 2012-13. In particular, following closure of many units in TN due to power cut the number of those who have lost jobs has considerably increased. These details have been given in the Centre’s report on industries. In this condition, it is funny that they claim to convene the conference of global investors to attract FDI of Rs. one lakh crore.
Replica scheme: Referring to the government claim of starting sale of cement at cheap price not available anywhere else in the country, Kalaignar said Jayalalitha as CM on 26.9.2014 announced ‘Amma cement’ for Rs.190 per bag. Reporting this the daily ‘Dinamalar’ under the heading ‘Scheme brought by Karunanidhi’ stated “During DMK rule, in order to distribute cement at cheaper price Karunanidhi started the scheme of buying cement from 13 private units at Rs 200 per bag and selling for the same price. Following it now the CM has announced ‘Amma cement’ scheme”. Only after more than three months now that scheme was started in Tiruchi on Jan 5.
Not only this; it was reported in dailies on Dec 18 last that the State government had ordered payment of Rs five lakh relief to families of construction workers losing life during construction work, which was announced by Jayalalitha under rule 110 on Aug 12 last. Perhaps they might say that at least after some months these schemes were started whereas other schemes announced by her were not at all started, Kalaignar said.
Transport strike: Asked about the ADMK government’s handling of the transport workers strike, Kalaignar briefly referred to a report in ‘Junior Vikatan’ periodical. “A similar strike was conducted by the workers in 2001 when Panneerselvam was the CM and now again during his tenure after 13 years. The surprise was the entire cabinet entered into bus stands and applied top gear to break the strike. The atrocities committed by the Ministers, who were running around temples for their ‘amma’, in depots were not a little. As they were directed to run the buses in their respective districts they plunged into the field along with battalions of MLAs, MPs, Mayors, local body representatives’ et al. The ruling party people entered into bus depots as if they were their party offices; and worked in assistance of district collectors and transport department officials. Minister Sellur Raju took the avtar of bus depot manager and the minister, and collector visited all the 15 depots in Madurai district. Sellur Raju was allotting drivers and conductors for buses. Entering into Vellore bus stand Minister K.C.Veeramani was telling passengers that alternative arrangements had been made for their journeys. In Cuddolore Minister M.C.Sampath got down from the car and directed party cadre”.
Thus the periodical has reported how the Ministers and ruling party handled the strike. In more detail ‘Nakkeeran’ periodical reported how badly action were taken to suppress this strike. These were all evidenced as to how the strike of workers was handled by the ADMK regime and how the transport department functioned, Kalaignar said.25 January 2015
