TN CEO asked to verify electoral list of Srirangam constituency

The DMK on Jan 19 alleged that there were almost 9,000 bogus voters in Srirangam Assembly constituency. Party’s Organisation Secretary R S Bharathi met Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena and presented a memorandum seeking immediate steps to rectify the irregularity.
“There are many voters whose names appear twice on the electoral roll. There are names of persons who have died but their names still appear on the electoral list,“ said Bharathi.
 D.M.K. Organisation Secretary R.S. Bharathi, Legal Wing Joint Secretary R.Girirajan and Headquarters Advocate I. Paranthemen, met Dr. Sandeep Saxena, I.A.S., Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu on Jan 19 in Secretariat Chennai, regarding rectification of the defects in the voters list of Srirangam Assembly Constituency.
The petition stated:
“On 05.01.2015, General Electoral Roll was published to the entire state of Tamil Nadu. During the revision period, on behalf of our party we had brought to your notice about some of the defects like, double entries, shifted and dead persons names found in the voters list to be deleted, for which we had also placed with material evidence to the concern Electoral Registering Officers.
It is also pertinent to note that, on behalf of our party we met you in person and brought to your notice about the aforesaid defects. However the same defects were not found place in the Srirangam Assembly Constituency Electoral Roll.
In view of the By-election to be held on 13th February 2015, we request you to take immediate steps to rectify the defects of double entries, dead persons and shifted voters from the voters list of the Sri Rangam Assembly Constituency.
We enclose the list of the double entries, shifted and dead persons names in the Srirangam Assembly Constituency voters list”.
