Srirangam by-election :Kalaignar seeks support for DMK nominee to save democracy and defeat autocratic regime of ADMK

DMK President Kalaignar on Jan 16 sought the support of all political parties to the party candidate, N. Anand, in the Srirangam by-election. Such a gesture alone would be a warning to the autocratic regime of the ADMK, he said.
“We have taken a decision to contest the by-election with the support of all political parties as we consider it a very constructive move. We can save democracy by defeating the autocratic regime of the party,” he said in a statement.
As pointed out in the resolution adopted in the DMK General Council meeting on Jan 9, from the day ADMK government was sworn-in led by Jayalalitha forgetting all the electoral promises it is running an anti-democratic and anti-people regime. To peak it all the administration in the State had collapsed after the former Chief Minister, Jayalalitha, was convicted and sentenced to four year imprisonment with a penalty of Rs. 100 crore and disqualified in the disproportionate assets case and with rights of the State and problems of people remain uncared for, the people had come to a conclusion that there was no government at all in the State, he said.
“Jayalalitha’s benami Chief Minister Panneerselvam is not able to take any policy decision or devise long term plans. There is dual administration in the offices of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police. The government machinery is totally crippled and not able to have healthy debates and take any proper decisions concerning the rights of TN, basic needs of people, law and order and people’s issues,” he alleged. Besides rejecting the demands of the DMK and other parties for detailed discussion in the Assembly, the benami regime hastily conducted the session only for three days and brought democratic norms and legislative traditions to ridicule.
In particular in the,
v Issue of Karnataka constructing dams across Cauvery river
v Raising the height of water storage level in Mullaiperiyar dam
v Construction of check dam across Amaravathi and Pambar
v Issues of State’s rights like finding permanent solution for the continuing problems of fishernen
v Unprecedented continuing power cut and power tariff hike
v Milk price hike, bus fare hike, and price rise of essential articles
v Health hazards like dengue and swine flu spreading in the State
v Farmers’ plight due to scarcity of urea throughout the State
v Deterioration of law and order; educational institutions turning into execution field; continuing murders and robberies
v Cancellation of financial assistance of aged people
v Basic problems of people including fixation of minimum price for green tea
v Scandal in the procurement of eggs for nutritious meals scheme
v Aavin milk adulteration and sales scam
v Granite mining irregularities and corruption
v Mineral sand looting, corruption
not protected the rights of the State, not taken steps for solving people’s problems, not taking suitable action on corruption and irregularities found and raised by political parties and the media. The regime is totally remaining crippled and paying attention to only matters benefitting those in power and those operating it. In order to tell Tamil Nadu people the disarray of the anti-people and anti-democratic regime,
it has been decided by the DMK to contest the by-election to Srirangam constituency to be held on Feb 13 and announced the same candidate who contested last time, Kalaignar said.
Such a gesture alone would be a warning to the autocratic regime of the ADMK, he said. “We have taken a decision to contest the by-election with the support of all political parties as we consider it a very constructive move. We can save democracy by defeating the autocratic regime of the party and hence I request all parties in the State to extend support to the DMK candidate in the by-election” Kalaignar said.25 January 2015
