“As long as DMK, LPF exist memories of C.Kuppusamy will linger on”

Stating that late friend C.Kuppusamy was an unforgettable great man who sincerely toiled for the Party till last and discharged all duties assigned to him with diligence and for the growth of the movement, Kalaignar said that as long as the DMK and LPF existed, the memory of C.Kuppusamy would linger on.
Recalling his memories about Kuppusamy, Kalaignar said he served as Station Master in those days when getting a job in Railways was very rare. Due to his affinity for the Party he gave up the government job and came without any expectation that he would later become the President of LPF and MP. Knowing him from the days when he was serving as Station Master, Kalaignar said wherever meetings were held in and around Panruti, he would bring food for main speakers from his house.
In his speech at the general council meeting of the LPF held at Anna Arivalayam on 23.3.2013, Kalaignar said he spoke for long on him without even an inkling that he would depart from us so soon. Beginning in DK attracted by the principles of Periyar, Kuppusamy later worked with Anna and him with affinity.
When the DMK headquarters was functioning at Omandurar Government Estates, he was one among the secretaries of headquarters and was prompt in coming to the office by 9 AM. He used to frequently walk the long distance from his seat to the place where the leaders were seated. He used to patiently reply even if he (Kalaignar) vent his anger due to pressure of work.
In his personal, public and political lives, Kuppusamy faced many trials and tribulations but still he wasn’t deterred from his works. Even in the trade union front which he established and worked there were occasions when differences of opinion cropped up but he managed to tackle them and continued to work. But he thought that such trials did happen to all who serve in this movement and continued to protect the movement.
Serving as President of the LPF from 1977, Kuppusamy was instrumental in getting recognition of Central union from the Central government in 2008 although the LPF functioned as central union from 1970. Because of this recognition the LPF was able to participate in Standing committee on Labour in India, Indian Labour Conference and International Labour Organisation. He was also instrumental in starting LPF affiliated unions in 13 states and increasing membership to over 15 lakhs, Kalaignar acknowledged.
Kuppusamy lived all through his life and served with high ideas that labour alone was noble capital of the world, labour was not saleable commodity, labour was rendered and received by man and all men were equal, and created that high ideas in the minds of others, he said.
As North Chennai Lok Sabha constituency had sizeable section of workers, Kuppusamy was fielded there as DMK candidate in 1998,1999 and 2004 elections and when somebody else had to be fielded there he accepted the decision without any hesitation and participated in the candidate introduction meeting. He discharged all duties allocated to him only for the growth of the Party, Kalaignar said.
