Responding to the statement of Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai S.Duraisamy that case would be filed against him for exposing irregularities of the corporation, DMK Treasurer Thalapathi M.K. Stalin said that he was prepared to face the case.
Speaking to reporter in Tiruchi, he said that whenever Jayalalitha was in power too many caste clashes were taking place in the state. But without any concern for all these developments and covering up figures of murders, burglaries and robberies, she had quoted wrong figures and contended that murders for benefits had come down compared to DMK rule. But such wrong claim was also given wide coverage in dailies which emboldened her to damn care about anything in the Assembly.
Asked how many marks would he give for the two-year regime of ADMK, he said the verdict of people in the ensuing Lok Sabha election would be the score-card for the ‘achievements’ of this regime.
Asked about the feasibility of Rs.30,000 crore power plans announced by Jayalalitha, he said she had announced them under rule 110 and people would get them as 111 (on their foreheads). He said the Chennai Mayor had said that he would file a case against him for exposing the scandals, administrative deterioration and irregularities of the corporations. “I am prepared to face the case if he filed it”.
Thiru Stalin said that he had asked in a demonstration held recently what were the project works undertaken at a cost of Rs.4,000 crore and roads laid at a cost of Rs.1,000 crore in the last two years as claimed by the Mayor. He asked the Mayor to release a white paper on it but so far he had not come with it.
Moreover, in 821 places they established garbage collection centres with tin sheets everyone of which cost Rs.50,000 to Rs.One lakh. But 60 percent of the sheets were missing now. Hence there were irregularities in purchasing and missing of these sheets and people’s money had been wasted. But the Mayor could not explain anything with evidence. Similarly in the implementation of their ‘Amma Unavagaam’ scheme, there were lot of irregularities and atrocities like using corporation school buildings, administrative offices, hospital and even toilets and officers and health workers who attend to civic works were deployed for this scheme. This had resulted in deterioration of hygienic conditions leading to mosquito menace causing illness to people.”I am waiting to tell the court with evidence all irregularities and misuses”, he added.
